Abstract
937,487. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems. SHORT BROS. & HARLAND Ltd. May 25, 1960 [June 25, 1959], No. 21870/59. Class 135. In apparatus incorporating a plurality of servomotors A, B acting in parallel on a common output member 18, 19, means are provided for isolating any defective servomotor from its power supply in response to an unbalanced torque condition between the servo outputs initiated by the defective servomotor. In each servomotor a transducer 13 moves a piston valve 12 allowing either of two pistons 3, 4 to receive pressure via 8, 9, 10 and 11 or to exhaust via 16 or 17. The pistons act on crank discs 7 having arms 21, 22 which engage a spider 20 on the output shaft 18 through stiff springs 23. Should one servomotor fail, the unbalanced torque compresses a pair of springs and operates an associated micro-switch which energizes a solenoid to move a valve 25 to cut-off the pressure supply at 10 and by-pass the piston cylinders via passage 26. The micro-switch may also operate an indicator showing that the servomotors are not in sympathy. Three or more servomotors may be used.
