Abstract
937,425. Television pick-up tubes. CORNING GLASS WORKS. March 23, 1961 [March 31, 1960], No. 10722/61. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (1). [Also in Group XXIII] An image orthicon tube includes a target of glass having a resistivity of between 6.3 x 10<SP>10</SP> and 1000 X 10<SP>10</SP> ohm cm. at 25 C. and containing a total of at least 2% by weight of at least one readily reducible metal oxide selected from oxides of lead, bismuth, zinc, copper, cadmium and iron. Such targets have an increased operating life since the said oxides are reduced by the scanning beam in preference to alkali metal ions, or the latter, if reduced, are regenerated by reduction of the said oxides, and hence the resistivity of the target is not increased. Examples are given in table form both for the starting materials and for the resulting composition of the target. Specification 836,348 is referred to.
