Abstract
937,370. Removing bark. CANADIAN INGERSOLL-RAND CO. Ltd. May 11, 1962 [May 11, 1961], No. 18281/62. Class 145. A rotatable log barking drum is provided with a plurality of transverse heads 46, 48, 50, 52 to form successive intercommunicating compartments within the drum and central circular apertures 54, 56, 58 and 60 in the successive heads are of increasing size in the direction of travel of the logs so that, while a sufficiency of water is contained in the drum to keep the bark particles suspended, it also flows to the end 68 and escapes between bars or staves 66. As shown the drum comprises two sections 12, 14 with the second section 14 preferably provided with a greater number of internal staves than the section 12. The drum is driven by a motor 42 and has tyres 16 which are supported in rollers on each side of the drum centre-line, the bearings for each pair of rollers being connected by an adjustable tie rod so that they can be brought closer together to raise the height of the drum.
