Abstract

1,143,233. Pens. A. BENNIMAN. 8 June, 1966 [18 June, 1965], No. 23325/65. Heading AIM. Apparatus for handling stock comprises a race 2 having straight side walls, a working pen having one wall at least partly in common with the race, and drafting gate means 5 at the race inlet operable selectively to permit animals to pass into the race and the pen and also to permit animals to pass from the pen into the race without escaping externally of the apparatus. As described two pens 3, 4 are provided each pen comprising half a regular polygon and including a forcing gate 3a, 4a hinged centrally of the common wall to swing freely throughout the pen whereby animals in the pen can be grouped. The drafting gate means comprises a pair of gates 28, 29 hingable either at the positions 30, 31 or at positions 32, 33. Removable bars 34 for closing the inlet to the apparatus and bars 35 for closing the inlet to the race are also provided. One of the gates 28, 29 may be hinged at 36 centrally of the bars 35. The outlet of the race is controlled by gates 37, 38 and a further draft gate 10 controls the outlet of the apparatus. The race 2 is located on a trailer 1 having demountable wheels, the walls of the trailer forming the walls of the race. A foot bath and a spraying unit are mounted on the trailer. A pair of races 6, 7 may be located adjacent the outlet of the apparatus and the race may be divided into two by a longitudinal wall.
