Abstract
A carbon or graphite body is coated with zirconium by spraying The coating is applied by feeding a wire, rod or strip of zirconium metal into an oxy-acetylene or oxy-hydrogen flame to melt the metal and directing a blast of air, argon or nitrogen on to the molten metal to atomize and spray it on to the body. Before coating, the surface of the body is preferably roughened. The invention is applicable to anodes for thermionic valves and mercury arc rectifiers.
