Abstract

Cellulosic textile materials, e.g. cotton, linen and regenerated cellulose, are impregnated with (a) an alkaline-reacting substance and (b) an acyclic sulphone having the formula <FORM:0936479/IV(a)/1> in which each of R1, R2, R3 and R4 i a hydrogen atom or a methyl or ethyl group and then heated to effect reaction of the sulphone with the materials. The materials may be impregnated with an aqueous solution of the alkaline reacting substance, e.g. an alkali metal hydroxide, carbonate or phosphate, and a cyclic sulphone, dried at room temperature and then heated at 250 DEG -400 DEG F. for 0,5-20 minutes.ALSO:Cellulosic textile materials, e.g. cotton, linen and viscose rayon, are crease proofed and shrink proofed by impregnating them with (a) an alkaline-reacting substance and (b) an acyclic sulphone having the formula <FORM:0936479/IV(a)/1> in which each of R1, R2, R3 and R4 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl or ethyl group and then heating. The materials may be impregnated with an aqueous solution of the alkaline reacting substance, e.g. an alkali metal hydroxide, carbonate or phosphate, and acyclic sulphone, dried at room temperature [and then heated at 250 DEG -400 DEG F. for 0,5-20 minutes.
