936,474. Automatic control of electromagnetic suspension. CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE VED. Jan. 14, 1960 [Jan. 16, 1959], No. 1342/60. Class 38 (4). In a system in which variations in the vertical position of an electromagnetically suspended body influence a pick-up coil forming part of the grid circuit of an electronic oscillator, the consequent changes in output of which control the energization of the suspending eleotromagnet, the oscillator anode supply is retroactively stabilized and the oscillator valve internal capacity is neutralized by 50% at least. In Fig. 3, vertical movement of a ferro -magnetic body A alters the tuning of the grid circuit of a high-frequency tuned-anode tuned-grid oscillator E1, the interelectrode capacity of which is partly neutralized by capacitors C4, C5. Consequent alteration of the oscillator output, which is rectified by a valve E2, controls, through an amplifier E3, the energization of a supporting electromagnet L2 so that the force exerted on the body is adjusted to maintain the body in a fixed vertical position. The anode supply to the valves is derived from an A.C. source through a full-wave rectifier E7 and the applied voltage is stabilized by applying it through a potentiometer R7 and an amplifier E5 associated with a glow discharge valve E6 to control valves E4 connected in series with the supply. Applications to low friction bearings for weighing and force measuring apparatus, rotor balancing and ball-bearing flaw detection are referred to.
