Abstract
950,263. Electromagnets. ELEMAG-ANSTALT. Oct. 12, 1962 [Oct. 12, 1961], No. 38685/62. Heading H1P. [Also in Division F2] The stem 3 of a two or threeway ball or slide valve 2 is sealed by a bellows 27 and attached to an armature 4 having an annular rib 4a of frustoconical section which co-operates with a complementary annular groove in a fixed pole member 13. The valve is loaded to the closed position by an adjustable holical or pneumatic spring or, as shown, a stack of spring discs 19. The electromagnetic winding 15 is energized by a current which is a function of temperature, e.g. of the liquid controlled by the valve. The temperature is measured by a resistor 32 with a negative temperature coefficient which resistor, with fixed resistors 33, 34 and a variable resistor 35 forms a bridge, the input to which is connected to a transformer secondary winding 41 via a full-wave rectifier 39, a resistor 38 and a condenser 40. The bridge output is connected to the winding 15 through a transistor amplifier 46, 47, 48 supplied from another transformer secondary winding and diodes 49. A magnetic amplifier may be used instead of the transistor. A linear relationship exists between the excitation current and spring force so that the degree of valve opening is determined by the level of excitation of the electromagnetic winding.
