903,265. Measuring electrically. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Feb. 17, 1960 [Feb. 17, 1959], No. 5604/60. Class 40 (1). In a densitometer the liquid under test is admitted via tap 1 to tube 2, the temperature of which is stabilized by surrounding it with a jacket 5 fed from a thermostatically controlled supply. Float 8 carries magnet 12 and soft iron polepieces 13 and 14; movement of which, in response to changes in density of the liquid, unbalances differential transformer 16, 17, 18, the output signal of which is amplified, rectified and fed to solenoid 19 whose field tends to attract the float and so rebalance the differential transformer. When the equilibrium condition is reached the current in solenoid 19 provides a measure of the density of the liquid. Thick Duralumin disc 21 screens the differential transformer from the effects of changing current in coil 19 whilst disc 20 restores electromagnetic symmetry to the transformer. Screw 22 moves the assembly of tubes 2 and 5 relative to the transformer coil in order to provide zero adjustment.
