Abstract
A coating composition, for insulating electrical conductors, comprises an aqueous dispersion of a certain polyester resin, a curing agent for the resin and a surfactant. The polyester is a condensation product of a lower dialkyl ester of terephthalic and/or isophthalic acid, ethylene glycol and a saturated aliphatic polyhydric alcohol having at least three hydroxyl groups, e.g. glycerol (see Specification 775,081). Before the resin is dispersed in water, it is finely pulverized, e.g. in a ball mill or by causing particles of the resin to collide at high velocity. The curing agent may be triethanolamine titanate, titanium lactate, octylene glycol titanate, tetracresyl titanate or tetraphenyl titanate. The surfactant may be glyceryl monooleate, stearic acid, or esters of stearic acid with glycerine, ethylene glycol or polyethylene glycol. If the pH of the dispersion is not of itself from 6,0-7,5 it may be adjusted to be within this range by the addition of acetic acid pyromellitic acid, methyl morpholine or ammonia. The dispersion may also contain a thickening agent, e.g. hydroxyethyl cellulose.
