Abstract

936,280. Electric heating tubes. F. SCHROEDER-STRANZ. Dec. 11, 1959 [Dec. 13, 1958], No. 42119/59. Class 39 (3). An electric heating tube comprises an outer tubular envelope 3, Fig. 1, containing a coiled element 2, the wire of which is bent so as to have a plurality of projecting portions 1 spaced from one another and substantially engaging the inner surface of the envelope in order to maintain the element in a predetermined position therein. The preferred forms of the projections are shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The envelope may be of quartz or coloured glass, and a reflective coating may be provided on a portion thereof. The ends of the coil 2 are fused through an airtight seal in the ends of the tube 3 which is evacuated. The coil is formed by winding a tungsten wire round a core and at regular intervals utilizing a die to produce the projections. The wire is then annealed on the core to such a temperature that no deformation will subsequently occur.
