Abstract

Internal conducting coating of colloidal graphite extends along the sides of the tube from the closed end almost to the open end. The risk of unwanted electrical discharge at the open end is reduced by forming a narrow collar in the glass tube at that end. The high tension connection is made with the colloidal graphite near the open end of the tube. The tube is to be held in the middle of the discharge zone on supporting rings, each made of a helical spring bent round into toroidal form. Tubes are superior to silvered or water-filled tubes.
