Abstract

935,742. Coated fabrics. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. March 28, 1960 [June 29, 1959], No. 22308/59. Class 140. A coated fabric having good abrasion resistance consists of a textile fabric having a substantially non-porous coating of a natural or synthetic rubber which in turn carries a coating consisting essentially of a plasticized or non- plasticized polyvinyl compound. The natural or synthetic rubber may be a 2-chloro-1,3-butadiene polymer (neoprene), butadiene-styrene and butadiene-acrylonitrile. The polyvinyl compound may be polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate, styrene or vinylidene chloride. The coating of the polyvinyl compound may be at least 0.05 mm. thick. The polyvinyl compound may be applied to the rubber coated fabric in the form of a solution, and set by removal of the solvent, e.g. by evaporation. An organic polyisocyanate primer may be applied to the rubber coating prior to the application of the solution of polyvinyl compound.
