Abstract

Nucleotide imidazole organic base salts of the formula <FORM:0935508/IV(a)/1> where the BASE is a purine or pyrimidine moiety, the SUGAR is a pentose or a hexose moiety, B is an organic base, R is vinylene, C1-6-alkylvinylene, o-phenylene or mononitro-o-phenylene, and R1 is hydrogen or C1-6-alkyl, are prepared by reacting a nucleotide <FORM:0935508/IV(a)/2> with a 1,11-carbonyl diimidazole <FORM:0935508/IV(a)/3> The sugar moiety may be derived from D-ribose, D-glucose, or 2-deoxy-D-ribose; specified bases B are imidazole, pyridine and trioctylamine. The reaction may be carried out in non-aqueous solvents. Examples relate to adenosine-51-phosphorimidazole, with B as imidazole.
