Abstract

935,127. Cutting tools. T. V. WILLIAMS. May 8, 1961 [May 11, 1960], No. 16647/61. Class 83 (3). A milling or boring cutter comprises a holder, Figs. 1-3, having recesses on its periphery, and a square bit 4 clamped in each recess by a locator 6, and a wedge 7. Faces 2, 3 of each recess are inclined to the axial and radial axes of the holder, and the faces of locator 6 and wedge 7 which abut bit 4 are parallel to each other. A projection 10 on locator 6 fits into a hole 9 in the bit to locate the latter, and the wedge is actuated by a screw 8. In a modification, face 13, Fig. 6, is not inclined, and face 12 is inclined radially in the opposite direction to the face 2 of Fig. 1. In a further modification projection 10 is replaced by a recess 30, Fig. 11, in which the bit 24 is seated. The holder may comprise a part 1, Figs. 1-3, having a disc 1<SP>1</SP> bolted thereto, or it may be in one piece. Specification 872,693 is referred to.
