Abstract
934,752. Springs for cycles. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. March 30, 1960 [April 30, 1959], No. 11199/60. Class 136(3). [Also in Group XXXII] A cycle springing-device comprises a wheelsupport member supported on a framemember and remote-controlling means operable when the cycle is either in motion or at rest by further means to cause the support-member to be either springably movable or rigid with the frame-member. The support-member may be a lever 6 carrying the wheel at one end and swinging against a spring on the frame member 5 by a pivot 14 which can be locked rigid with the framemember 5 by a Bowden cable 7 which turns a lever 17 to clamp the lever 6 to the member 5. An alternative device, shown on the rear wheel in Fig. 1 and in Fig. 3 supports the wheel on a tube 4 slidable within a framemember guide-tube 3 against a helical spring (not shown). The tube 3 has a tapered portion with four vertical slots 14 and is threaded to receive a sleeve member 11 which engages the tapered portion of the tube 3. A cableoperated toothed-lever 9 engages teeth on the member 11 and can rotate the latter so that it clamps the frame member 3 to the wheel support 4.
