Abstract

A suspension system for the handlebars of a bicycle or light motor cycle designed allow the handlebars to rise and fall so as to take up shocks due to the unevenness of the road surface, includes an arm (1) which projects forwards from the top of the handlebar stem (2) and which can pivot about a bolt (4) which passes through it and a block (2) on top of the stem, opposed by a spring (3). This spring has coils which locate on collars carried by the bolt (4), held between discs also located on the bolt, and has forwardly bent arms which are retained by a U shaped wire clip (10) on the arm (1). The swinging action is limited by a stop consisting of a bracket (11) on top of the stem with a loop (8) which locates against a screw (7). In an alternative design, a spiral spring is used, located under the arm (1).
