Abstract

934,164. Measuring vibration electrically. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 13, 1962 [July 26, 1961], No. 27098/61. Class 40 (1). [Also in Group XIX] Apparatus for testing a bladed wheel 11 possibly for use in a turbine, comprises a series of force-generating devices such as fluid jets delivering oil, water or steam, or D.C. magnets a, b, equally spaced around a plate 10 coaxial with the wheel 11, groups A, B, C of the devices being able to be energized in various combinations in order to simulate blade vibration patterns set up by internal turbine components when the wheel is operational. Pairs of magnet poles 16 are mounted on a base 13 removably secured to the plate 10, the blade, magnet gap being adjustable. Vibration detector means such as piezo crystals or strain gauges may be fixed at various points of the blades and wheel 11, their output being fed through slip rings to measuring equipment such as a cathode-ray oscilloscope. The wheel 11 may be rotated at various speeds by an electric motor and the whole system may be run in a vacuum chamber.
