Abstract
741,146. Electric torque measuring apparatus. BURTON, P., and HUTCHINS, D. C. March 19, 1954 [Jan. 12, 1953], No. 824/53. Class 40(1) Apparatus for indicating the torque, power and speed of a shaft comprises a fan-type dynamometer brake wherein a mask 1 (Fig. 1) is adjusted with respect to a fan 5 by a, handle 2 which also moves the sliders 10, 14 (Fig. 2) of potentiometers 8, 11, 12, 15 connected in circuit as shown with ammeters 9, 13, 16 and fed by a tachometer generator 6 on the driving shaft, the overall resistance of the network being constant so that the current through ammeter 16 is proportional to the speed of the shaft, and having the resistor 8 wound to a square root law, so that ammeter 9, which has a square law relationship between current and deflection, indicates torque on a linear scale, and having resistor 12 wound to a cube root law so that ammeter 13 indicates lower on a non-linear scale.
