Abstract
782,092. Electric measuring systems. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN AKT.- GES. May 23, 1955, No. 13443/56. Divided out of 782,091, [Group XXXVI]. Class 40 (1). Apparatus for measuring the torque transmitted by a shaft comprises two pairs of strain gauge resistors fixed to the shaft so that the twist of the shaft produced by the torque transmission causes the resistance of one pair of strain gauges to increase and that of the other to decrease, the change in resistance being determined by the portable bridge described in Specification 782,091. The bridge is energized by a generator G (Fig. 5), driven by a batteryenergized motor M. Two of the arms of the bridge constitute the test strain gauges 30, 31 and the other two 12, 12<SP>1</SP> are included in the portable apparatus, which also includes the 3-stage amplifier for the bridge unbalance voltage, the amplified output being demodulated and fed to. a recording oscillograph. An initial standard unbalance is produced by introducing a resistor 35, 36 or 37 in parallel with one arm 12 of the bridge, the selecting switch 28 being coupled with a bridge voltage selecting key 27, to produce a standard deflection on the oscillograph from which the test deflections during torque transmission may be gauged. The arrangement of strain gauges on the shaft automatically compensates for variations in ambient temperature.
