Abstract

933,659. Valve bags. BRITISH VISQUEEN Ltd. June 4, 1962 [June 29, 1961], No. 23555/61. Class 94(2). The edges 3, 4 of a gusset at the side of a plastics bag are joined together by a seam 8 which includes four layers of material and is interrupted at 9 to provide an opening permitting filling through a slit 5 in the reentrant fold 2 of the gusset. The slit 5 may be at the end of the gusset adjacent the aperture or, as shown, at the remote end of the gusset. The seam may be formed by welding or stitching, and the fold 4 may project beyond the fold 3, as shown. The bag may be formed from tube of plastics film gussetted, and seamed at 6, 7, or may be formed from flat film by suitably folding and seaming it or by adding a folded strip of plastic to form the gusset. The bag may be left joined at its ends to other bags formed from the same web. Suitable materials for the bag are polythene and polyvinyl chloride.
