A device for applying paint to one of two opposed surfaces defining a gap not exceeding half an inch in width comprises a substantially rigid flat plate 10 of rigid plastic or metal having a fibrous paint applying material on at least one of its surfaces, the overall thickness of the device not exceeding half an inch. The paint applying material may be pile fabric or fur which may be adhesively secured to the plate or formed into a pocket into which the plate is inserted. A handle 12 is secured to a projection 11 of the plate and both the handle or plate may be bent or shaped to suit the surfaces to be treated.
