In a rotary sheet-printing machine wherein each sheet is fed to the grippers of the impression cylinder, but is previously registered by front lays which are swung away by a cam-operated lever, which determines the position of the lays, the cam-operated lever is manually adjustable so that the timing of the swinging of the lays can be altered to suit the speed of the machine. The front lays 7 are carried by a shaft, rotatably mounted in the machine frame above the impression cylinder 5 (not shown), which has secured thereon a lever provided with a crank-pin 22 engaging a slot in a lever 11. The lever 11 is rotatably mounted on a eccentric bush 10 carrying a roller 12, and urged by a spring into engagement with a rotating cam 13, whereby the cam rocks the lays. A lever 9 is secured to the eccentric bush 10 and carries at its free end a pin 14 engaging a slot 16 in the machine frame; the pin 14 is screw-threaded and can be locked in a selected position by a nut 17. Thus, when the free end of the lever 9 is moved along the slot from position A to position B, the bush 10 moves the stub shaft from A<SP>1</SP> to B<SP>1</SP> and the axis of the roller 12 moves nearer the operative part of the cam 13 so that the lays 7 are tripped sooner.
