933,354. Pressing chipboard. H. VAN HUELLEN, and A. VAN HUELLEN, [trading as NIEDERRHEINISCHE MASCHINENFABRIK BECKER & VAN HUELLEN]. Dec. 24, 1960, No. 44381/60. Class 87(2). In a machine for making chipboard, comprising an intermittently closing press 1, chipstock is spread evenly on an intermittently moving conveyer belt 2 by a charging device 6 which is movable with an adjustable but constant speed relative to the conveyer in a direction away from the press 1, this speed being less than the speed of the conveyer towards the press the distance moved by the conveyer during the time the press is open being equal to the distance moved by the device 6 relative to the conveyer during a cycle of the press. A chain 12 is fitted on each side of the belt 2 and is arranged to be driven at the same speed as the belt, the belt and chains being held at rest while the press is operated. A gear wheel 13 driven from a motor 14 engages with each chain 12 and drives the charging device 6 in the direction of the arrow A, while the belt and chains are stationary, but with a speed which is less than that of the belt 2 towards the press when the belt is moving. The charging device thus moves with a constant speed relative to the belt, but actually moves in the direction of the arrow A while the press is closed, and is carried in the direction of the arrow B while the press is open and a new charge is being supplied to it. The trailing edges 9a, 10a of press members 9, 10 are cooled so that chipstock therebetween is only precompressed and not cured, and after pressing the chipboard is fed to a trimming device 8. The chains 12 may be dispensed with if the gear wheels 13 are replaced by friction wheels acting directly on the belt 2.
