Abstract
933,315. Fluid-pressure brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Aug. 30, 1960 [Sept. 28, 1959], No. 32892/59. Class 103 (1). In a servo-assisted braking system for vehicles, a valve device 10 for controlling the servo device 1 of the differential air pressure type is adapted to be operatively associated with a pedal 23 or other operator-operated means associated with a master cylinder 22 so that movement of the pedal 23 causes displacement of the master cylinder 22 to effect operation of the valve device 10 through suitable mechanical linkage 25, 20. The servo device 1 is of the vacuum suspended type having vacuum present in chambers 3, 5 situated one on each side of an annular flexible diaphragm 2 when the apparatus is in its inoperative state shown in Fig. 1, an atmospheric valve head 11 being in its closed position and the valve head 12 being in its open position allowing vacuum to be present in each of chambers 3, 5. When the brake pedal 23 is depressed, the master cylinder 22 is slidably moved to actuate a lever arm 25 connected thereto at 24 about the pivoted connection 26 of the lever arm 25 to a fixed mounting. Movement of arm 25 causes displacement of the plunger 20 and diaphragm 2 connected thereto in order to close the valve port 13 and open valve port 7 to admit atmospheric air to the end 5 of the servo device 1 and cause movement of the diaphragm assembly to effect the servo operation which assist the pedal effort.
