Abstract

933,291. Governors. BERNARDMOTEURS. April 26, 1961 [June 14, 1960], No. 15132/61. Class 57. [Also in Group XXVII] In a compression ignition engine a speed governor displaces an element 2, to regulate the injection rate of a pump 1, against the force exerted by springs 5, 7, which draw the element towards a fuel over-supply position fixed by a stop 11, the stop 11 and the co-operating part 13 of the element 2 being constituted by a magnet or magnets. With the engine stopped, a pivoted lever 9 abuts a fixed stop 10 and the element 2 abuts the magnetic stop 12, play being provided between a stud 8 and the element 2. With increase of engine speed the movement outwardly of the balls 6 in the governor moves the element 2 to the right, all play being transferred to the right of stud 8 at the normal minimum operating speed, and further movement reducing of the fuel injector pump output through a rack 3 meshing with teeth 4 on the stem of the fuel pump piston. The positions of magnet 12 and head 13 may be reversed and the head 13 may be constituted by one or more permanent magnets. The speed governor may be of the type using variable liquid pressure, e.g. engine oil pressure.
