933,097. Separating solid materials. E. P. BRAND. May 25, 1961 [June 3, 1960], No. 19745/60. Class 117. Root crops such as potatoes are separated from earth clods, stones &c. by depositing the aggregate by an elevator E on to an endless belt conveyer A adjustably inclined both upwardly in its direction of travel and transversely such that the clods, stones, &c. remain on the belt and are delivered to one end, whereas the potatoes roll towards the lowermost part of the belt to be received on an elevator EE which discharges them to a vehicle 16, Fig. 6. Those potatoes which roll off the lower longitudinal edge of the conveyer A are received in a trough T and delivered to the elevator EE by a belt conveyer B comprising the trough floor. An additional potato separator may be provided by an endless belt conveyer C, Fig. 4, trans verse the discharge end of conveyer A, and upwardly inclined in its direction of travel so that any potatoes carried to the end of conveyer A will roll into the trough T; earth clods &c. are discharged from the upper end of conveyer C. Conveyer A is mounted on trunnions 8 on a carrier which itself is mounted on trunnions 11 in supports 13, 14. The latter are secured to a framework F of a harvester chassis drawn by a tractor T. A platform P is provided for operatives to manually assist in the separation. Two or more separator conveyers A may be arranged in series.
