Abstract
932,922. Angular bending. H. SMITH (GLASGOW) Ltd., and D. C. JEFFREY. May 25, 1962 [May 25, 1961], No. 18898/61. Addition to 831,353. Class 83 (4). A frame bending machine as described and claimed in the parent Specification incorporates the improvement or modification which consists in providing that the end of each arm remote from that pivoted to the crosshead is pivoted to one end of a respective radius rod carrying clamping means, the other end of the radius rod being pivoted to the fixed frame at a point close to the point where the line which is the locus of the instantaneous centres of curvature about which bending occurs meets the line joining the points of contact of the clamping means with an unbent bar fitted to the machine. Bars 26 to be bent are fed through the machine by feed wheels 30, 31 driven by motors 32. The bars 26 are then held by an hydraulic clamp 23 on the machine frame 1 and by hydraulic clamps 12 and 16 on radius arms 11, 15. The arms 11, 15 are pivoted at 13, 17 to the frame 1 and at 10, 14 to arms 6, 8 pivoted at 7, 9 to a crosshead 3 moved towards and away from the bars 26 by hydraulic means. The clamps 12, 16 are offset from lines joining the pivots 10, 13 and 14, 17 respectively of the radius arms 11, 15. In operation as the cross head 3 moves away from the bars 26 the arms 11, 15 rock about their pivots 13, 17 to bend the bars.
