Abstract

932,524. Packaging-machines; making bags. SPIRAL MANUFACTURING PROPRIETARY Ltd. Dec. 5, 1961, No. 43473/61. Classes 94(1) and 94(2). [Also in Group XXVIII] Tubular packaging material is formed from an internal continuous film 1 of plastics material to which is united an outer fabric covering made up of strips 2, 3. The strips may be of hessian, cloth, or paper, and the film 1 of p.v.c. or polythene extended in seamless form. The tubular film, supplied from a drum 7, Fig. 4, is coated with adhesive on both outer surfaces by rollers 10, 11, the strips 2 and 3 being fed between pressure rollers 12. Rollers 13 apply rubber latex adhesive to flaps 4 of the strip 3, which are folded inwards at 14 before passing between further pressure rollers 15. In a modification, Figs. 5-8 (not shown), each of the strips 2, 3 has one side flap, and the adhesive coating, instead of being applied to the film 1, is applied to the inner surface of each of the strips. The packing material may be cut into lengths, the contents inserted, and the ends closed by stitching, wires or cords.
