Abstract
932,137. Testing motor vehicles. CARL SCHENCK MASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H. Aug. 4, 1961 [Aug. 12, 1960], No. 28486/61. Class 106 (2). In a test bed for motor vehicles having relatively adjustable rollers to accommodate different sizes of wheel base, the rollers are linked by belt-and-pulley systems to intermediate pulleys mounted either (1) on a single shaft 19 (Fig. 4) common to otherwise separate frames 13, 14 carrying the said belt-and-pulley systems for each roller, respectively; or (2) on separate shafts 4a, 7a (Fig. 2) in frames 9a, 9b, arranged on opposite sides of the test bed, the transmission from shaft 4a to shaft 7a taking place through a telescopic shaft 8 with universal joints at each end. Thus, as the distance between rollers 2 and 5 (Fig. 2) or 11a and 11b (Fig. 4) is varied, the various frames pivot on the pulley shafts and the belts remain in tension. The embodiment of Fig. 4 may be modified by providing pulley systems on both sides, for use with vehicles having three axles.
