Abstract
931,907. Cleaning carding-engines. F. REITERER, L. WINDISCH, and J. NIFENECKER. July 13, 1961 [July 27, 1960], No. 25426/61. Classes 120 (1) and 120 (3). A pneumatic dust removing and collecting system in a carding-engine comprises a housing enclosing a lower part of one or more of fibrecarrying components of the machine. Air is discharged towards one or more locations at which dust is liable to occur or settle, e.g. by the action of mate knives, and through the housing adjacent the enclosed part, and discharged air (with entrained dust and waste fibre) is withdrawn from the opposite side of such location(s) and component. The withdrawn air is filtered and recirculated in the system and waste fibre may be separated from dust and reprocessed. In the cotton card shown in Fig. 1 a filter box 6 is divided by a filter screen 7 into an intake compartment 7a and a blower compartment 7b housing a fan 9 which blows air through a duct 10 into the enclosure formed by the housing 10a, and a deflector vane 12 of a nozzle 11 adjustably directs the air flow across a smooth horizontal or downwardly inclined plate 13 (and, if required, partly against the swift 3). The air is drawn through a secondary filter box 14, comprising coarse and fine filters 15 and 16 which separately remove waste fibre and dust, and returns through suction ducts 20, 21, to compartment 7a. A part of the air from nozzle 11 escapes from the enclosure and carries waste fibre, derived particularly from the taker-in 2, into an evacuation box 17. The waste, augmented by fibres pneumatically swept from filter 15 by periodically closing a valve 22 and opening an air supply valve 23 to direct the main air flow into the box 17, is salvaged by a hinged filter door 18. A suction nozzle 25 draws into the main air stream the dust generated in the vicinity of calender rolls 5a. Access to filter 7 is provided by loaded door 24. Modifications, shown in Fig. 3, include a perforated plate 28a forming with the swift 3 a partial enclosure into which air is directed by an adjustable valve 27 of an inlet 28; a blowing nozzle 29 located within the card flat chain 4, supplied with air by an adjustable valve 26 and co-operating with a suction nozzle 30 leading through duct 31 to compartment 7a; a suction device in the form of a perforated hood 32, over the taker-in 2, connected through duct 33 with compartment 7a.
