Abstract
931,804. Belting fabric; laminates; coated fabrics. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Jan. 8, 1960 [Jan. 30, 1959], No. 3406/59. Classes 74 (2) and 140. Belting is woven wide and slit up after impregnation, leno selvedges being formed at what will be the edges of the individual belts to resist fraying. The fabric has two layers of weft 8, Fig. 2, lying above and below straight warp threads 9 and interlaced with warp threads 7 ; at the cutting zones, Fig. 3, the wefts are brought into one plane by the leno-woven threads 10, which are highly tensioned. In an example, the warp threads 7 are plied cotton yarns, the warp threads 9 are cabled polyethylene terephthalate, the warp threads 10 are plied nylon and the weft is cabled cotton. The coating or impregnation may be natural or synthetic rubber, or gutta percha, balata or polyvinyl chloride. After impregnation with a vulcanizable rubber compound or a plasticized polyvinyl chloride paste, a sheet of vulcanizable rubber or polyvinyl chloride, respectively, may be placed on each side of the fabric and the assembly heated in a belting press.
