Abstract

1347018 Laminated fabric BURLINGTON INDUSTRIES Inc 2 March 1971 5814/71 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions B7 and D1] A chafer fabric or a fabric for incorporation in a laminate comprises an open work lenswoven fabric wherein each pair of lens ends are shed oppositely to an adjacent pair, one end of each pair being substantially the same strength as the weft threads and the other end being substantially weaker so that, if there is weft movement, the weaker end breaks, the fabric tends to maintain its open work orientation and has the same tear strength in both warp and weft directions. The fabric may be calendered between unvulcanized elastomer sheets with subsequent curing to provide rubber tyres or may be bonded to films, paper or carpet.
