Abstract

1,049,373. Laminates. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Nov. 13, 1962 [Nov. 22, 1961], No. 41712/61. Heading B5N. Multi-ply mechanical belting comprises at least two adjacent plies tied together by threads which interweave therewith, at least one of the plies being adhered to an adjacent layer of resinous material which overlies the tied plies. Preferably the separate fabrics are tied together by constituent threads of the plies themselves. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the face and back plies of plain cotton cloth are bound together by one of the face warp threads 1 interlacing with one back weft thread 4 and one of the back warp threads 3 interlacing with one face weft thread 2. The front and back of the resulting fabric are spread with rubber solution and sheets 5, 6 of rubber composition calendered on to the fabric and vulcanized. The warp threads of the face ply only may be used to bind the plies together, and the back face only may be covered with resinous material. Asbestos, polypropylene, spun glass yarn or polyethylene plies may also be used. The tied plies may be adhered to further textile plies by plastic material.
