Abstract

907,157. Laminates. SIEGLING, H. May 16, 1960, No. 17148/60. Class 140. A conveyer belt consists of at least two tensile layers 3 and 4 of a polyamide or polyurethane, and an intermediate layer of synthetic thermoplastic material of lower elongation in the direction transversely of said belt than the said tensile layers, and of greater resistance to solvents and heat than these layers. The intermediate layer has threads 5 of polyester material running in a direction transverse of the belt, the threads being embedded or enveloped in a layer 6 of polyamide or polyurethane capable of being interwelded with the tensile layers. Polyamide multifilament threads may be used, the mixed yarn consisting preponderantly of polyamide and a small proportion of polyester yarn. A fabric may be built in, in which the polyester forms the weft threads, and polyamide forms the warp threads, thus on interwelding the polyamide threads fuse with the polyamide tensile layer. The layers may be assembled by application of pressure after treating the fabric with a solvent, e.g. phosphoric acid, formic acid, phenol, cresol, or glycol, or by heating the fabric, e.g. using high-frequency heating to dissolve the surfaces of the polyamide yarn and layers.
