Abstract

931,752. Rotary-head magnetic recording &c. BUSH & RANK CINTEL Ltd. Aug. 15, 1961 [Aug. 15, 1960], No. 28165/60. Class 40 (2). The heads 2-5 of a conventional transversetrack magnetic tape-recorder, besides their usual record/playback functions on a tape T, are arranged to pass a radial coil 7 and a tangential coil 8. During recording the usual FM carrier is picked up by the coils producing outputs whose envelopes are A and B respectively. Synchronous detection means of known type produces an output C which crosses a zero line at the instant 14, when each successive head is aligncd with the coils 7, 8. A pulse may be derived from the change-over of output polarity. For playback, a signal fed to the coil 8 may be compared with the output of a corresponding head or a direct current in the coil 7 may produce a head output corresponding to C.
