[Also in Group XL (c)] Successive signals, such as arise from successive shots in geophysical prospecting, are composited by recording the signals on successive tracks 70, 70a ... by a narrow head 120, indexed by means 124 for each successive signal and by then playing back an algebraic mean signal by a head 128, wide enough to span the set of tracks. The Figure shows a five-channel equipment. The tracks may be recorded on a record-only machine (Fig. 1, not shown) and the record sheet transferred to a second machine (Fig. 2, not shown) for playback. Specification 898,144 is referred to.
