Abstract

910,869. Magnetic recording; television. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 5, 1961 [Sept. 8, 1960], No. 31862/61. Class 40 (2). A television signal is recorded as to video by the drum-mounted heads 4-7 and as to audio and synchronizing signals by the stationary heads 12, 13 on a second coating on the opposite side of the tape, so that the respective tracks 21, 19, 20 corresponding to the same instant in time of their respective information are recoded in overlapping relationship at the same part of the tape, thus providing for simplified editing and splicing. Wide tracks produced by heads 12, 13 are only partially affected by the adjacent video recordings or by printing from the next tape-turn during storage, leaving an ample margin of signal on playback by heads insensitive to video frequencies, while the frequencymodulated video signals do not fall below 1 mc/s. so that interference by tracks 19, 20 is readily removed by filtering. A further advantage claimed is the use of narrower tape for the same information storage.
