899,118. Driving magnetic tapes. NIPPON ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 27, 1960 [June 4, 1959], No. 18881/60. Drawings to Specification. Class 40 (2). Photoelectrically-sensed holes in a magnetic tape indicate the starting points of a plurality of separate recordings and operate counter means indicating the part of the tape adjacent the transducing point. To transduce a distant part of the tape, a counter signal is compared with one indicating the desired recording to engage high-speed drive of appropriate direction to drive the tape to the vicinity of the desired starting point, at which a normal tape transducing speed is resumed. The high-speed drive is rendered inoperative when the desired recording is relatively close.
