Abstract

A soap composition comprises 1-20% by weight of the anhydrous soap, which is generally a sodium soap, of a compound of formula R CONH(CxH2xO)mH wherein R is a C12-18-alkyl, preferably straight chain, group, x is 2 or 3 and m is 3-40, preferably 8-12, such compounds preferably having melting points of at least 30 DEG C. The composition may be produced (a) in bar form by adding the condensate either prior to the drying of the crude soap stock or prior to milling, (b) in flake form by adding the condensate prior to flaking, or (c) in powder form by adding the condensate to a wet mixture of soap and adjuvants prior to spray-drying or -cooling. Suitable adjuvants include condensed phosphates, sodium carbonate, silicate and perborate.
