Abstract

931,490. Unpackaging. ATKRON Inc. July 26, 1961 [Feb. 24, 1961], No. 27043/61. Class 94(1). [Also in Group XXX] A machine for removing bottles from crates 3 comprises a conveyer 2 which feeds the crates towards an unloading conveyer 1 in the form of a pair of endless chains which carry a plurality of bottle gripping members between them. These members are controlled by cams 39, 40 at opposite ends of the lower run of conveyer 1 to pick up the bottles from crates 3 on conveyer 2 and release them for delivery to the conveyer 4. Each bottle gripping member (see Group XXX) comprises a pair of pivoted jaws which will open automatically if an obstacle, such as an inverted bottle, is encountered and each pair of jaws is mounted in a member which can rise and fall and also swing from side to side with respect to a carrying grave mounted on conveyer 1. These features prevent stoppages which might otherwise result from mispositioned bottles in the crates.
