Abstract

930,112. Swivelling couplings. ULTRA - PRAZISIONSWERK G.m.b.H. May 27, 1960, No. 18751/60. Class 38 (1). A swivelling cable coupling comprises an outer casing consisting of a number of stacked annuli 1 ... 4 held together by bolts 11 and having contact rings 15 sandwiched between them, said casing being rotatable on ballbearings 9, 10 relative to a central tube also consisting of stacked annuli 5 ... 8 and having resilient ring contacts 13 sandwiched between them which urge contact balls 14 into engagement with the rings 15. At one end of the coupling, cable cores 16 are passed through the central tube and connected to the contacts 13 and at the other end connection is effected to terminals 12 which are attached to the bolts 11 which in turn contact the rings 15. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the rings 15 are backed by springs and adjacent pairs of rings 13 are mounted so as to face each other. Again (Fig. 3, not shown), the rings 15, like the rings 13, may be resilient. Fig. 4 shows another construction in which connection is effected through needle roller bearings 64. The outer casing 51 comprises a cylinder with longitudinal grooves 67 along which cable cores 68 are led from one end of the coupling to arms 66 connected to the outer races 65 of the contact bearings, said arms also serving as anchorages for the outer races which are slotted and compressed on to the needle rollers by annular springs 69. The inner races 62 are supported by the central tube sections 54 ... 57 and have conductors 63 connected thereto which extend along grooves in a central insulating member 53.
