Abstract

930,097. Windscreen wipers. W. E. O'SHEI. Oct. 16, 1959 [Oct. 20, 1958], No. 33422/58. Class 138 (1). A windscreen wiper arm 11 is pivotally connected to the bridge piece 9 connecting two yokes 6, 6a by the engagement in a transverse slot 30 in the bridge piece of a tongue 31 formed at the downturned end of the arm 11. The tongue has an aperture to receive a leaf spring 34 which bears against the bridge piece 9 to hold shoulders 32 on the arm 11 against the back of the bridge piece 9 to form knife edge bearings. Similar connections are provided between the bridge piece 9 and the yokes 6, 6a. In operation the wiping blade 1 hinges about webs formed by grooves 13 in the opposite sides of the blade, the grooves 13 being interrupted at 13a to vary the flexing at different parts of the blade to obtain a uniform application of pressure along the length of the blade.
