Abstract

930,065. Opening and blending machines. A. E. CALLAGHAN & SON Ltd. Aug. 20, 1959 [Aug. 20, 1958], No. 26803/58. Class 120 (1). Combs are fitted to an opening and blending machine for fibres in operative relation with an opening cylinder and immediately alongside the feed rollers. A feed plate is provided that is shaped to curve around the periphery of one of the rolls to form a sharp ridge between this roll and another forming a nip with it. This feed plate may form a part of an adjustable support block 19 on which the combs 23 are fitted. A gap of gradually decreasing width is provided between feed roll 4 and block 19. Adjustment of the roll 4 may be by a threaded bolt 14 in conjunction with a bearing block 12 slidable in guides 13 in a head 8 mounted to pivot about the axis of feed roll 3 and subjected to loading from a spring 10. Also adjustably mounted in the head 8 are further feed rolls 15, 16. The first comb 23 is tangential to the cylinder 1 and parallel to the remainder. The combs may be of plain, blade-like form, or have serrated edges, or be fine-pitched tooth combs; combinations of these forms of combs may be used. Specification 919,531 is referred to.
