Abstract

930,031. Granulating thermoplastic materials. BUSS A.G. Dec. 4, 1961 [Dec. 15, 1960], No. 43276/61. Class 87(2). In a method of granulating thermoplastic material the material is extruded in a heated plastic state through a nozzle 3, cut into granules by a cutter 5 adjacent the nozzle exit, and drawn away from the cutter in a stream of gas. The latter flows through a hood 6 connected to a cyclone separator (not shown) containing a suction fan. A sprayer 9 for cooling liquid may be provided in the hood 6. In one further construction the hood is provided with a cooling jacket and with liquid cooled guide baffles, and in another the hood is inclined upwardly to receive granules from an upwardly acting cutter.
