Abstract
928,870. Filing papers. NATIONAL BLANK BOOK CO. Dec. 4, 1961, No. 43330/61. Class 146 (1). , The front, back and spine panels 12, 14 and 10 forming the binder case 8 of a loose leaf binder are constructed of upper and lower portions hinged together, respectively, at 16, 20 and 18, such that when opened out as shown in Fig. 2 the top portions may be swung back to provide an "easel" support for the opened binder. A known type of toggle-plate ring mechanism unit 22 is mounted in a channel-shaped mounting plate 28 which is riveted to the lower portion of the spine panel 10 the upper part of the plate nesting in a channel-shaped brace-plate 26 whenever the top panel portions are coplanar with their respective lower portions. The side walls 32 of the plate 26 extend beyond the upper web end of the plate and are formed with ears 36 turned inwardly for pivotal and frictional engagement with recesses 30 formed in the side walls 29 of the plate 28 near its upper end. The lower end of the plate 26 is bevelled at 38 such that on swinging the upper panel portions down for " easel " support the plate may be swung into the vertical supporting position shown in Fig. 3, the ears 36 pivoting about, and sliding along, the edges of the recesses 30. The binder case 8 may comprise heat-sealed superposed plastic sheets with stiffeners therebetween, the dividing hinge lines between front, back and spine panels and between upper and lower panel portions being formed by heat sealing the contacting inner surface portions of the sheets.
