Abstract

A resin complex of formula <FORM:0928803/IV(a)/1> wherein R is H, C1 to C6 alkyl, C1 to C6 alkoxyl, nitro, halogen or methylenedioxy, X is hydrogen or halogen and A is the anion of a sulphonic acid cation exchange resin, is prepared by hydrolysing the corresponding N-formyl compound <FORM:0928803/IV(a)/2> to the amine and then reacting the amine with a sulphonic acid cation exchange resin. Preferably both R and X are H, and the complex is prepared by heating an aqueous mixture of the N-formyl compound, the resin and a mineral acid. The examples illustrate the formation of a complex of phenyl-t-butylamine and a sulphonated styrene copolymer. Specifications 577,707, 726,782 and 824,337 are referred to.
