Abstract
The invention comprises thiamin salts of substituted hydroxybenzoic acids of the formula <FORM:0786143/IV (b)/1> wherein R is an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical (including bicyclic fused and condensed aromatic substitution), and R is hydrogen or methyl, and a process for the production of difficulty water-soluble salts of thiamin which comprises reacting a relatively soluble salt of thiamin in an aqueous reaction medium adjusted to a pH value within the range pH 50-70 with a salt of a substituted hydroxybenzoic acid of the formula set out above, and recovering a crystallized difficulty water-soluble thiamin salt of the acid from the reaction medium. The following acids may be employed: 5 - isobutyl - 2 - hydroxybenzoic acid, 5 - iso - hexyl - 2 - hydroxybenzoic acid, 5 - isoheptyl-2-hydroxybenzoic acid, 5 - isooctyl - 2 - benzoic acid, 5 - cyclohexyl - 2 - hydroxybenzoic acid, 4 - isopropyl - 3 - methyl - 2 - hydroxy - benzoic acid, 5 - isobutyl - 3 - methyl - 2 - hydroxybenzoic acid, 5 - cyclohexyl - 3 - methyl-2-hydroxybenzoic acid, 3 - phenyl - 2 - hydroxy - benzoic acid, 5 - phenyl - 2 - hydroxybenzoic acid, 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid.
