Abstract

928,099. Plaster bandages. T. J. SMITH & NEPHEW Ltd. April 2, 1962 [April 5, 1961], No. 12268/61. Class 81 (2). A plaster of Paris bandage comprises a carrier coated and impregnated with a slurry of plaster of Paris which is dried out, the carrier incorporating fibres or filaments of glass. The carrier is of cotton gauze of plain weave (Fig. 4) or leno weave (Fig. 6) in which the warp threads 12, 15 and/or the weft threads 13, 16 are replaced wholly or in part by multi-filament strands of glass fibres of low alkali type. Wide sheets of the carrier carrying the dried slurry 14 are cut into strips and rolled up. Alternatively a flexible web of glass fibres of 8 to 12 micron diameter are bonded with about 6% by weight of a polymeric adhesive to form a tissue which is either adhered to the cotton gauze by a suitable adhesive or used alone as a carrier for the plaster of Paris.
