Abstract

928,046. Floor cleaning appliances. HOOVER Ltd. Aug. 4, 1959 [Aug. 8, 1958 (2)], No. 26628/59. Addition to 882,020. Class 138 (1). A scrubbing and liquid pick-up suction appliance includes a combined scrubbing and water pick-up nozzle 10, a separator 18 connected by suction tubes 11, 15 to the nozzle, a fan 47 for applying suction to the separator to draw air or dirty liquid into it, and a tank 14, the open top of which fits into a recess 33 in the separator with the flange 31 of a supporting ring 30 forming a sealing gasket between the upper edge of the tank 14 and the lower edge of the separator 18 so that the tank 14 may receive the dirty liquid from the separator 18 and also be readily removable from the appliance. As shown in Fig. 2 the tank 14 includes an outer casing 28 to contain clean detergent liquid and an inner impervious flexible bag 29 to contain dirty liquid, the mouth of the bag 29 being secured to the supporting ring 30. The detergent is discharged from the tank 14 by the opening of a leaf spring mounted valve 36 on actuation of a control rod 41 downwardly against the action of a spring 48. The tank 14 is held in position by means of a face cam which exerts an upward pressure on the tank bottom when in its locking position. Specification 928,048 also is referred to.
